colorimetric measurment principle
colorimetric measurment principle
In a colorimetric analysis process the ionic and other concentration in water is monitored by allowing a reagent to react against the target ions and others, and monitoring the transmissivity of the resultant coloration for light of a specific wavelength → a defined light source is activated to project light into the sample water
The Colormetry replaces this process by an electrical monitoring system and automates the entire process.
● the analysis device measures the transmissivity of the resultant coloration for light of a specific wavelength
● it determines the ammount of sent out light which is absorbed by the couloured water sample
● the unit detects colour-changes and the intensity of a colour; from such informationen the concentration of ions in water can be calculated
applications for colorimetric measurments
● determination of hardness leackages in the effluent of water softeners with an indicator reacting selective with the ions calcium and magnesium
● mearument of free chlorine concentration in water with an indicator reacting selective with the free chlorine ions

determination of water hardness
determination of water hardness
The indicator reacts with Calcium and Magnesium ions Titration with colour change soft water ► water sample is coloured BLUE hard water ► water sample is coloured RED The unit is able to distinguish between BLUE and RED The unit detects the cholour change The unit evaluates the hardness leackage Only one single indicator is necessary adjustable thesholds [ mg CaCO3 / Liter] : 1 mg/L 0,05 °dH | 2 mg/L 0,10 °dH | 3 mg/L 0,15 °dH | 5mg/L 0,25 °dH |
monitoring of free chlorine
monitoring of free chlorine
The indicator reacts with Free Chlorine ions Titration with extinction monitoring the more free chlorine in water the more intensive the colour drives from The unit evaluates the concentration Only one single indicator is necessary over the adjustable tesholds [ mg Cl- / Liter ] : 0,05 | 0,10 | 0,20 | 0,03 | 0,40 | 0,50 | 0,60 | 0,70 | 0,80 | 0,90 | 1,00 | a high and a low threshold can be set |
